Lyne Tilt is a Brisbane based contemporary artist creating original abstract paintings, wearable art and sculptural works that blur the boundaries between art, object and adornment.
Working intuitively across paint, polymer clay and mixed media, Tilt is drawn to bold colour, unexpected forms, tactile surfaces and the beautifully imperfect details found in everyday life. Her practice is fuelled by curiosity and experimentation, allowing ideas to move freely between canvas, wall and body.
Playful without being frivolous, her work celebrates individuality, imperfection and the pleasure of owning art that feels distinctly personal. Whether worn, held or hung on a wall, each piece is created as an invitation to look closer, feel something and live with art a little more boldly.
THE WORK
I've never been particularly interested in staying in one lane.
I work across abstract painting, contemporary jewellery and wearable and wall art, moving between paint, polymer clay and mixed media depending on where an idea wants to go. I'm drawn to bold colour, curious forms, tactile surfaces and the small, often overlooked details of everyday life.
My work begins with curiosity. I rarely start with a fixed destination. Instead, I layer, rearrange, remove, respond and experiment, allowing materials and instinct to become part of the conversation. I'm interested in what happens when something familiar is shifted, simplified or transformed into something unexpected.
Whether I'm creating an original painting for a wall or a piece of contemporary jewellery to be worn, I think art should have a life beyond simply being looked at. It can change the feeling of a room, become part of how we express ourselves, spark conversation or make an ordinary Tuesday feel slightly less ordinary.
For me, art isn't an optional extra.
Art is oxygen.
ART IS OXYGEN
I believe art is more than something we make, wear or hang on a wall. It changes the way we experience the everyday. It gives us a way to express what can't always be explained and reminds us to notice, question, feel and stay curious.
For me, making art is an act of attention. So is choosing to live with it.
A painting can completely shift the energy of a room. A piece of jewellery can become part of how we show up in the world. The things we choose to surround ourselves with can hold memory, provoke conversation, make us smile or simply make an ordinary day feel different.
I don't believe art needs to be understood before it can matter. You don't need the right words, the right knowledge or anyone else's permission to respond to something.
You can simply love it.
Art is oxygen.
And I think life is infinitely better when we give ourselves more room to breathe.
